Russell Wilson Gilmore – You Will Always Be Remembered

The David Maus Foundation Board Members and volunteers would like to convey our deepest sympathies to the Gilmore Family. Russell Wilson Gilmore, son of Wilson Arnie Gilmore and Elberta Peach Gilmore, was born on March 16, 1949. Russell, known as “Rusty”, the son of a long time basketball coach and teacher, spent his youth playing any sport where he could find a game. He was a great high school football and basketball player, when he played at Lampasas High School.

Upon graduating Lampasas High School, Rusty enlisted in the US Army, and represented the United States during the Vietnam War. After the Army, Rusty and his current wife, Patricia Gilmore had their only son Chaz Gilmore on April 1, 1980. Rusty and Patricia raised their son in Orlando, FL until 1990.

In the years since 1990, Rusty spent his time with his family and wife, Kathy Best. Kathy and Rusty lived in Plano, where they raised Rusty’s son, Chaz Gilmore and stepson Jason Best. Rusty, a huge sports fan, was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and the University of Texas football team. Rusty enjoyed spending his time watching his teams, fishing, and relaxing on his ranch in Lampasas, Texas.

In August of last year, Rusty was given a grandson, Colton Pierce Gilmore. Truly a blessing in his life, he spent his final year in great pride, with love for his son Chaz, daughter-in-law, Steffanie and grandson Colton.

Rusty is survived by his son, Chaz Gilmore, daughter-in-law, Steffanie, grandson Colton, sister Lynda Daniel and brother-in-law David Daniel of Houston.

Rusty was loved by many and will be missed by all. Rusty, a truly loving man, has many friends and family members who will love and miss him. We will always hold on to our memories and stories of Rusty.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate Rusty’s life on Thursday, September 15th from 6-8pm at Allen Family Funeral Options, 2120 W Spring Creek Parkway, Plano, Texas 75023. In lieu of floral arrangements, Rusty’s family would appreciate donations to the David Maus Foundation. The Foundation supports charities committed to improving the quality of life for children with life threatening illnesses and their families.

God Bless

David Maus Foundation Donates $15,000 to Benefit Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation

Last night kicked off the First Annual Crystal Ball event, hosted by the Leavitt Companies and sponsored by the David Maus Foundation to benefit the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to finding a cure for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, and to improve the quality of life of children and adults affected by these diseases.

The Crystal Ball was held at the top of the new Solar Blue building in downtown Orlando, a donation by Mr. Lee Maher of Solar Blue Inc. Dr. Leavitt spoke to the group thanking everyone who participated and introducing patients with the disease to speak on the importance of finding a cure. A special thanks was given to David Maus, whose Foundation donated $15,000 to the cause.

Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are painful, medically incurable illnesses that attack the digestive system with many patients requiring hospitalization and surgery. American adults and children suffer from Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis, with as many as 150,000 under the age of 18.
